Hauwa Memorial College
HAUWA MEMORIAL COLLEGE, FUNTUA, NIGERIA was established on 17 April 1998. The college underwent a series of developments that lead to it finally being renamed Hauwa Memorial College from its original name of NASRAK Secondary School. Its permanent site is situated along Sokoto bypass, behind Federal Prison Services, Funtua.
The college has in place an educational programme aimed at fulfilling the secondary education objectives as required by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and NECO. Its motto is KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. This is in keeping with its objectives to instil in its students the most desirable and acceptable norms and values of society and adequate knowledge in arts, science and technology that can meet the challenges of modern day and the quest for academic excellence.
The educational programmes within the college provide the bedrock and foundation for entrenching, transmitting and perpetuating desirable norms and self-development and equipping the students with the skills of the new information and communication technology, to face the challenges of globalisation and life-long learning.
We provide a multicultural and multi-faith atmosphere, maintaining sensitivity to the needs of each child. We believe that all students have different abilities, skills and interests, which, if developed and nurtured, will enable them to become mature, self-sufficient, and productive members of their community.
In addition to the educational programmes provided by the college, clubs and societies are organised and promoted as part of the students’ development. Among these are Exam success club international, Press club, Literacy and Debating club, Cultural and drama club and so on.
Hauwa Memorial College Human Rights Day 2005 event
On Saturday, 10th of December, 2005, the old and the young, male and female gathered at Hauwa Memorial College, for Human Rights Day event. The participants of the event numbered 568 constituting mainly students and teachers. The activities of the day included a speech presentation by the Chairperson, PADEAP, Dr. Tajudeen AbdulRaheem, inter-secondary school quiz, debate and speak-out competitions.

There was inter-secondary school quiz competition between five secondary schools in Katsina State. The questions for the quiz competition were based on Human rights, Africa and human development. We have also worked with and supplied Primary schools with materials on sessions that focus on early marriage and the rights of female education as well as the rights of children. We have been fortunate to have a close symbiotic relationship with Hauwa Community College which is an Independently- managed school, therefore more flexible in its extra curricular activities. Often we pilot our innovative activities in the College and others follow the good example.
