Community Resource Centre
Community Resource Centre
PADEAPs community information centre is a hub for providing information, training and education. We have built up an extensive library of information as a resource for the local community. The library holds books, journals, newspapers and literature that focus on issues related to Pan-African approaches, legal and human rights, youth, gender, conflict, health and IT. The library is also open to the others in the local community who require access to the Internet for educational and information purposes. Indoor games are also available.
In 2007, 16,223 men and 2,348 women accessed the centre, with adult literacy rates much lower for women this was expected. The implementation of Shari’a has created greater barriers for women wishing to access these resources especially because PADEAP has maintained a policy of mixed environments.
Computer training is also an integral part of our programme. Teachers, doctors, local government staff and members of community based organisations have all accessed computer training. Happy Computers continue to donate training time, expertise and training resources. Resources are also sourced from the internet, especially development education resources that can be used by teachers and community based organisations.
