Northern Nigeria – Political social and national context

For the past decade Nigeria has been at the centre of a number of political and inter-communal conflicts. The violence and conflict in the area has been further exacerbated by the introduction of Shar’ia Law in a number of different states especially in Northern parts of the country.

The purpose of our work in this area is to look at establishing a culture of peace between different religious factions through peace and human rights education and conflict resolution. Our work also focuses on empowering and engaging women, young people and children who often become socially and economically marginalised within areas of conflict and religious division.
